On Saturday, a police officer from Colorado passed away after plummeting 40 feet from a bridge while trying to apprehend car theft suspects. The Fountain Police Department issued a statement that evening confirming the tragic news.
“It is with extreme sadness that we at the Fountain Police Department notify the public that K-9 Officer Julian Becerra has succumbed to the injuries he suffered during an on-duty incident. End of Watch: Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 7:14 PM,” the statement read.
As reported by 9 News, Officer Becerra was on life support and surrounded by family and friends when he passed away. To honor him, law enforcement officers and first responders organized a procession that same night, according to KOAA News5. He had been part of the department for 4 1/2 years.
