Patrick Mahomes Sr. Arrested Ahead of Super Bowl

Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of renowned Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a former Major League Baseball pitcher, was taken into custody on Saturday in Tyler, Texas. The arrest was due to a charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI), marking his third or more such offense, as per the jail records.

Mahomes Sr., who has been a regular attendee at his son’s playoff games this year, was apprehended just over a week before the younger Mahomes is scheduled to compete in the Super Bowl 2024 against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on February 11. Back in 2018, Mahomes Sr. faced his second DWI charge, leading to a 40-day jail term served over weekends in 2019 and 2020.

The 53-year-old Mahomes Sr. had an 11-season career in the MLB, including stints with the New York Mets during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. He has been a steadfast supporter of his son throughout the playoffs. In a recent interview with WFAN, he mentioned that despite having shared a suite with pop star Taylor Swift in the past, he did not join her during the divisional round against the Buffalo Bills and would not be doing so for the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Mahomes Sr. was present when the Chiefs triumphed over the Philadelphia Eagles in the previous year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, where he celebrated with a cigar. He humorously referred to his celebratory smoke as “Philly blunts” after previously joking that he was “smoking that Joe Burrow” when the Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game.

Mahomes Sr. and his former spouse Randi, mother of the Chiefs quarterback, divorced in 2006, as reported by People. The couple’s other son, Jackson Mahomes, faced legal issues of his own last year. Jackson was arrested in May on a charge of aggravated sexual battery following accusations of assaulting a restaurant owner in February. However, the charges against Jackson were dismissed last month after prosecutors requested their withdrawal.
