One-Year-Old Girl Killed in Pit Bull Attack

In a tragic incident in Dover Township, Ohio, a one-year-old girl was fatally attacked by her family’s pet pit bull. The incident occurred last Wednesday when the child’s mother was picking up laundry at their home. The dog unexpectedly attacked the toddler, Blakely Blosser, leaving her mother in a desperate struggle to save her.

The mother attempted to fend off the dog while simultaneously dialing 911. However, by the time she was able to speak with a dispatcher, her daughter had tragically succumbed to her injuries, according to Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell.

Sheriff Campbell noted that the mother had sustained defensive wounds in her attempt to pry open the dog’s jaws. He expressed his sympathy for the mother, stating that the incident was one of the most horrific ordeals he had encountered in his career.

Blakely was found with fatal bite wounds to her face and throat. Officials believe she died almost instantly after the attack. The mother informed the police that the dog had not previously shown aggression towards humans, although it had displayed aggressive behavior towards other dogs.

The father, who was not present at the time of the incident, later euthanized the dog. The family released a heartfelt obituary for Blakely, highlighting her joyful spirit and the special bond she shared with her brother.

The case is set to be reviewed by prosecutors, but it is not anticipated that charges will be filed. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of pet ownership and the need for vigilance in monitoring pets’ behavior, especially around young children.
