In a shocking incident, an NYPD officer died after leaping from a Queens building’s roof on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police found the officer dead after he jumped from the top of the LeFrak City Apartments in Elmhurst, which is close to the NYPD Medical Division, according to police records.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the police officer’s name was not released.

Upon joining the force in 2017, he was assigned to the 121st Precinct in Staten Island, where he was transferred in September 2022, according to sources and records of the Staten Island Police Department.

According to sources, the cop was placed on restricted duty, but at this point it is unclear when the NYPD put him on the desk assignment and took his service weapons, as well as the reason for putting him on restricted duty.
