Newlywed Takes His Own Life After Honeymoon

Isabel Coles, a resident of Southern Pines, North Carolina, is grappling with the tragic loss of her husband, Christopher, who took his own life shortly after their honeymoon. The couple, who met on a dating app and married in September of the previous year, were reportedly very happy together. Their honeymoon was spent at a beachfront music festival, a choice that reflected their shared love for music.

However, the joy of their honeymoon was short-lived. Upon their return, Christopher, an Army veteran, ended his life at the age of 28, leaving Isabel devastated. The couple had been married for only four days. Isabel recalls the morning of the incident, noting that Christopher’s behavior was slightly unusual. Despite her inquiries, he dismissed her concerns before disappearing into the nearby woods.

With the assistance of Christopher’s parents, Isabel embarked on a frantic search for her husband. The following morning, however, Christopher’s father discovered his lifeless body in the woods. Isabel was left in shock and disbelief, as she had seen no signs of her husband’s inner turmoil. The couple had recently married at a courthouse and were planning a larger celebration with family and friends the following May.

In the aftermath of Christopher’s death, Isabel grappled with guilt and confusion, questioning whether there were any signs she had missed. She described her husband as successful, driven, and kind-hearted, making his sudden death even more shocking. Despite the tragedy, Isabel received an outpouring of support from friends and strangers alike, many of whom admired the couple’s apparent happiness.

In a surprising twist, Isabel received a bouquet of flowers from Christopher on Valentine’s Day, three months after his death. The flowers had been ordered in September, prior to his passing. Isabel shared her story in a viral video, which has since garnered nearly 40 million views. Despite some negative comments blaming her for Christopher’s death, Isabel remains committed to sharing her story.

In an effort to raise awareness about mental health, Isabel is training to run the Chicago Marathon in October 2025 in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She hopes to shed light on the often hidden struggles of mental health, emphasizing that even successful and seemingly happy individuals can suffer in silence.

While Isabel continues to mourn the loss of her husband, she is also striving to find meaning in the tragedy. She admits to struggling with feelings of guilt and reliving the traumatic event, but maintains that their relationship was not unhappy. She believes that Christopher did not intend to cause her pain, but was battling his own demons.
