A tragic incident unfolded in New Jersey on Easter Sunday when a father was brutally killed by his longtime friend and the friend’s son. The incident occurred after the father, Louis “Gus” Serbeck, 54, confronted the pair for allegedly assaulting his teenage daughter, Brooke, 19. The confrontation took place at the Vineland-area home of Eric Hannah, 55, and his son Jacob, 17, where Brooke claimed she had been beaten, leaving her with two black eyes.
Serbeck, a bodybuilder from Millville, had intended to discuss the matter with Eric Hannah, his high school friend. However, the situation escalated when Jacob Hannah allegedly punched Serbeck in the face as soon as the front door opened. The teenager then reportedly began to damage Serbeck’s pickup truck with a metal baseball bat. When Serbeck tried to intervene, the teenager allegedly turned the bat on him.
The situation further deteriorated when Eric Hannah joined the altercation, allegedly striking Serbeck several times in the back of the head with a large metal flashlight. Brooke was also reportedly hit in the head during the fight. Despite her injuries, she managed to separate her father from the attackers and helped him back to his truck. However, the father and son allegedly advanced on Serbeck again, this time with a hammer, before he finally collapsed.
Police were called to the scene and attempted to revive Serbeck, but he was declared dead en route to the hospital. The Hannah family, however, tells a different story. They claim that Brooke’s injuries were self-inflicted during a drunken episode, and that Serbeck initiated the fight by throwing the first punch.
The Hannah family’s version of events was relayed by 14-year-old Alana Hannah, who claimed that Brooke had been aggressive and physically confrontational when the family tried to eject her from their home. Alana also claimed to have filmed most of the fight, which she handed over to the police as evidence.
Serbeck’s younger brother, Christopher, is still grappling with the shocking turn of events. He described his brother as a kind and devoted father, known for his strength and fighting prowess. Friends of Serbeck, who was a skilled carpenter and a flat-Earth conspiracy theorist, were not surprised that he would fight to the death for his family.
Serbeck was a father of two daughters and a doting grandfather to two boys. His family remembers him as a man who loved spoiling his grandsons and took great pride in his family. Eric Hannah is currently in Cumberland County Jail facing homicide charges, while his son is in a juvenile facility as prosecutors determine whether he will be charged as an adult.
