SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A San Antonio mother has been charged with capital murder after her 6-year-old daughter was found dead at their apartment complex. Nephiterea Sancho, 36, was taken into custody on Wednesday following a disturbance call that prompted police to respond.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene to discover the child, identified as Hosanna Sancho, unresponsive with an apparent upper body injury. The motive behind the alleged attack by the mother remains undisclosed.
Reports indicate that Nephiterea Sancho was found naked at the scene and subsequently apprehended. She has a documented history of severe mental illness and had previously faced a conviction for child injury in 2010. Following a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict, she was sent to a state hospital for treatment.
Hosanna’s loved ones remember her as a talented violinist who had a passion for swimming and dreams of becoming a cheerleader. Unfortunately, her aspirations were tragically cut short. Authorities have not disclosed the exact cause of her death, but have confirmed that there were no gunshot wounds.
Currently, Nephiterea Sancho is in custody at Bexar County Jail on a $1 million bond. It remains unclear if she has entered a plea or secured legal representation.
