Man Murders Sister, Tries to Kill Parents Who Returned from Trip

A 32-year-old man from Wisconsin has been handed a substantial prison sentence for the murder of his younger sister and the attempted murder of his parents. Gerardo Jimenez-Rico was directed by a judge in Milwaukee County to serve a 35-year sentence in a state correctional institution for the murder of his sister, Jocelyn Jimenez, who was 22 at the time of her death, as per court records.

Jimenez-Rico admitted guilt to charges of first-degree reckless homicide, attempted second-degree intentional homicide, and first-degree reckless injury in the previous month. Alongside his prison term, he is also mandated to spend an additional 19 years under supervised release.

The case was initiated when officers from the Milwaukee Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a residence on West Cheyenne Street around 6:45 p.m. on January 22, 2025. Upon reaching the scene, first responders discovered three adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Jocelyn Jimenez, the youngest of the victims, was declared dead at the scene.

The mother of the accused, who was among the injured, informed officers that her son, Jimenez-Rico, was the perpetrator. Shortly after the incident, Jimenez-Rico surrendered himself at the District One Milwaukee Police Station, admitting to the assault on his family.

During his interrogation, Jimenez-Rico disclosed that his family had recently returned from a month-long trip to Mexico, a trip he was unable to join due to financial difficulties. He alleged that his family frequently ridiculed him for his unemployment status. On the day of the incident, he offered to assist with their luggage, but was rejected and retreated to his room.

The situation took a turn for the worse when his father complained about dirty dishes in the sink. Jimenez-Rico stated that the sink was blocked and required fixing, but his father and sister continued to chastise him. He confessed to having a handgun in his waistband during the argument, which intensified when his father asked him to move out.

Jimenez-Rico stated that he shot his father and sister during the dispute. He alleged that his sister had armed herself with a knife, which led him to shoot her to prevent being stabbed. An autopsy confirmed she had been shot four times. He also shot his mother as she entered the room, but claimed it was accidental.
