A Wisconsin man, aged 34, is currently facing several felony charges, including first-degree intentional murder, for allegedly murdering his addiction sponsor. The 60-year-old victim was reportedly stabbed nearly 30 times. The suspect, James C. Dorr Jr., was arrested earlier this year. In addition to the murder charge, Dorr is also accused of possession of methamphetamine, resisting or obstructing a police officer, and animal cruelty resulting in death, as he allegedly killed the victim’s dog.
The Green Bay Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, in an apartment complex located on the west side of the city. The victim, identified only as “D.V.” by authorities, resided in the apartment where the crime took place. Dorr was apprehended and charged the following day.
Additional details about the crime were provided by a criminal complaint obtained by a local Fox affiliate. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the victim on the floor of his residence, having sustained multiple stab wounds to his head, neck, and chest. He was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy later revealed a total of 27 sharp-force injuries, including 15 stab wounds to his chest and one to his face.
During a search of the residence, police found the victim’s dog, a white poodle named Benji, dead under the victim’s bed. A wallet, believed to belong to Dorr, was also found at the scene.
The victim’s ex-wife reportedly discovered the gruesome scene when she went to check on her ex-husband after being unable to reach him. She described Dorr as a friend or roommate of the victim and stated that he fled the apartment when she arrived.
Dorr was located and arrested the following day while walking on the street. He was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.
According to the complaint, Dorr confessed to the crime, stating that he had been having visions of his daughter and her mother being raped and murdered. He claimed that he had been fasting for spiritual reasons for two days prior to the incident. Dorr also admitted to killing the victim’s dog, calling his action “stupid.”
Dorr pleaded not guilty to all charges on Monday and is currently being held at the Dodge Correctional Institution.
