Man Fatally Shoots Neighbor’s Landscaper After Dispute

An Ohio man, aged 36, has been apprehended by authorities on charges of fatally shooting a 22-year-old landscaper. The incident reportedly occurred following a dispute over grass clippings on the suspect’s car. The accused, Travis Daniel Jackson, was arrested last week and faces charges including one count of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, according to official records. The victim has been identified as Tanner Staggs.

Dayton Police Department officers responded to a call at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at a residence on Indiana Avenue. The call was regarding a male adult who had been shot, as reported by the Dayton Daily News. Upon arrival, first responders found Staggs suffering from what seemed to be multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Details surrounding the incident were further clarified through a 911 call recording obtained by local ABC and Fox affiliate WKEF. The caller informed the dispatcher about the shooting, stating that the victim had been shot in the heart. The caller also revealed that the altercation began over grass clippings on a car and that the alleged shooter was still at the scene.

An eyewitness account provided to local CBS affiliate WHIO indicated that Jackson had exited his house and was in the street when he shot at Staggs. The witness, a neighbor named Gus Sinclair, stated that Jackson fired two shots towards the house where the landscapers were working. Sinclair expressed his disbelief at the senseless act, stating, “Guy lost his life for nothing.” WHIO reported that a car, believed to belong to Jackson, parked in front of his house had minimal lawn debris on it.

Jackson is currently detained in the Montgomery County Jail without bond, as per official records. In the wake of the tragic incident, Dunham’s Lawn Care LLC, where Staggs was employed, posted a tribute to him on its Facebook page. The post highlighted Staggs’ positive attitude, teamwork, patience, understanding, and leadership qualities.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral expenses, raising over $30,000 as of Monday afternoon. The page also shared personal details about Staggs, describing him as a dedicated baseball player with a love for animals and a strong appreciation for hair metal and 90s rap, much like his father.
