In a shocking turn of events, a 25-year-old man was arrested by Glendale police on Friday afternoon in connection with the gruesome murder of his mother. Alejandro Gonzalez was taken into custody after a welfare check at his residence revealed a blood-soaked apartment. Court documents reveal that the victim, 49-year-old Teresa De Jesus Cruz Rubio, was discovered hidden under a blanket, her decapitated body bearing multiple stab wounds.
Family members grew concerned when Cruz Rubio failed to show up for a family gathering meant to celebrate her birthday on Saturday. This unusual absence led them to suspect that something was wrong. Relatives confirmed that Gonzalez lived with Cruz Rubio in the apartment where the crime took place.
Adding to the shocking nature of the crime, Gonzalez’s arrest for his mother’s murder came less than a day after his release from jail on unrelated charges, as per the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. He had previously been arrested and held on a felony charge of criminal damage. However, the case was handed back to Phoenix police for further evidence collection.
Upon arresting Gonzalez, officers noted dried blood on his clothing. During interrogation, Gonzalez claimed that he and an unidentified local man were using drugs together before the man launched the deadly attack on his mother. Gonzalez confessed to also using a knife on Cruz Rubio.
Despite Gonzalez’s claims of a second party’s involvement in the crime, Glendale police have yet to find any evidence supporting this assertion. The investigation into the crime is still underway, and Gonzalez is currently facing charges of murder and theft.
