Man Arrested for DUI While Driving Toy Jeep

An Indiana resident found himself in police custody on Wednesday night, following an unusual traffic stop. The man was operating a children’s Power Wheels Jeep on a public road, leading to his arrest for driving under the influence, according to law enforcement officials.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on North Second Street, where a state trooper was on patrol. The officer noticed the toy vehicle on the road, which was not equipped with lights or reflectors, making it difficult to spot in the dark.

The driver of the toy car, identified as 51-year-old John McKee of Vincennes, was pulled over by the trooper. Upon interaction, the officer noticed signs of impairment in McKee’s behavior, prompting further investigation.

McKee was subjected to a field sobriety test, which he failed. Consequently, he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further evaluation. Medical professionals determined that McKee was under the influence of both methamphetamine and marijuana at the time of his arrest.

Following the hospital visit, McKee was taken to Knox County Jail. He was charged with a felony for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a charge that was elevated due to a previous conviction on his record.

This incident serves as a reminder that driving under the influence laws apply to all motorized vehicles, not just traditional cars and trucks. Even a toy vehicle, like a Power Wheels Jeep, can pose a danger when operated by an impaired driver.

The arrest of McKee underscores the ongoing issue of substance abuse and its potential to endanger public safety. It also highlights the importance of law enforcement vigilance in identifying and addressing such threats, even in the most unexpected circumstances.
