Man allegedly bites woman’s chin off

DeWaunte Leemont Nunley, a 39-year-old fugitive in Oklahoma, was taken into custody this week and is now facing two felony charges for biting off the chin of his girlfriend, Carey Johnson.

According to a press release from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Joe Hagar was able to locate Nunley at a homeless camp, where he was arrested without incident. The charges were initially filed in June 2021 after Nunley had been on a multi-day meth binge, and he pleaded guilty to both counts, receiving a sentence of time served plus 10 years of supervised release.

However, Nunley failed to appear for three consecutive domestic violence review hearings, leading to the posting of a bench warrant for his arrest. He was subsequently arrested and released on a $2,000 bond, but missed a hearing on May 26th, resulting in the forfeiture of the bond.

Johnson spoke with Oklahoma City CBS affiliate KWTV in 2021, providing further details about the attack. She was at a car wash with Nunley when, in a “meth-infused” rage, he began to strangle her. It was then that Johnson’s rescue dog, Big Red, came to her aid, biting Nunley and chasing him away. Nunley drove off in Johnson’s car, leaving her with nowhere to go. Police said that when Nunley was taken into custody, he was found to be in possession of a firearm that had been hidden in Johnson’s car.
