TreeHouse Foods, a food processing company based in Illinois, has initiated a recall of numerous frozen waffle products due to a potential risk of listeria contamination. The issue was identified during regular testing procedures at the company’s production facility. To date, there have been no illnesses reported in connection with the potentially tainted products.
The recall impacts a broad spectrum of waffle brands, such as Best Choice, Good & Gather from Target, and Great Value from Walmart. These products have been distributed throughout the United States and Canada. Customers are encouraged to inspect their freezers for any of these products and refer to the product codes on the company’s website to determine if their items are affected.
Listeria is a severe bacterial infection that can pose a significant threat to older adults, individuals with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women, as per the United States Department of Agriculture. Symptoms may encompass fever, aches, headaches, stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and diarrhea. The bacteria’s incubation period can vary from three to 70 days.
The recalled products encompass a range of waffle flavors from multiple brands. Customers are urged to check their freezers for any of these products and either dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.
This recall follows closely on the heels of another significant food recall. BrucePac, a major meatpacking company, recently recalled nearly 12 million pounds of meat, some of which was distributed to school cafeterias in New York. The USDA is also scrutinizing its handling of Boar’s Head, a brand that recalled over 7 million pounds of cold cuts in July due to listeria contamination. The Boar’s Head recall resulted in at least 10 deaths and numerous hospitalizations.
TreeHouse Foods has not issued any further comments on the recall. Customers are advised to monitor their health and seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms of listeria infection.
