A Dallas Cowboys enthusiast and his wife endured a traumatic incident during their inaugural visit to AT&T Stadium. Wenceslao Gonzalez, a lifelong supporter of the Cowboys, was presented with tickets to the September 22 game against the Baltimore Ravens by his wife, Lindsey, and their daughter. However, their joy was abruptly replaced with terror when they were attacked while attempting to resolve a conflict.
Following the game, the family observed a man verbally assaulting a young woman. The woman’s evident distress resonated with Lindsey, reminding her of her own daughter, which led the family to step in. Wenceslao was the first to intervene, resulting in a heated argument with the man, who was later identified as 32-year-old Rafael Antonio Ramirez.
The situation took a violent turn when Ramirez struck Wenceslao in the face. Lindsey’s attempt to separate the two men resulted in her being allegedly punched unconscious by Ramirez, who then proceeded to kick her in the face while she was motionless. These details were confirmed by the Arlington Police.
Lindsey sustained serious injuries, including 12 fractures around her left eye, cheek, and nose, as well as a broken jaw. She underwent surgery two days after the incident. Wenceslao also suffered injuries, including a fractured foot, as shared by their daughter Emma on a GoFundMe page established to assist with medical costs.
The assault has had profound implications for the family. Both Wenceslao and Lindsey have been unable to return to work since the incident. Ramirez was apprehended and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm. He was released on bail from Tarrant County Jail the day after the incident. The nature of his relationship with the woman he was arguing with remains unknown.
Lindsey voiced her desire for justice, stating that while she doesn’t wish harm upon anyone, she wants Ramirez to face the consequences of his actions. The incident has irrevocably altered the family’s life, and they no longer feel safe attending games at the stadium.
The family also expressed concerns about the inadequate security presence at the stadium, questioning the delayed response from law enforcement to the altercation. This incident is part of a series of violent altercations at the stadium, including a bloody brawl between Jets and Cowboys fans the previous year.
