KFC Worker Stabbed by Angry Customer

An argument over gravy at a KFC on West Craig Road turned into a stabbing on Dec. 27, police said, leaving one worker hospitalized and two men in custody on attempted murder allegations after a fight spilled behind the counter around 4:30 p.m.

North Las Vegas police identified the suspects as Gerald Carter, 32, and his uncle, James Carter, 48. Investigators say Gerald became upset about the gravy he received with his order, went behind the counter and confronted staff. Surveillance video described in arrest reports shows a scuffle that ended with a worker stabbed and another employee placed in a chokehold. The case drew quick attention during a busy holiday weekend and raised fresh questions about customer confrontations that spill into back-of-house areas. Officers arrived within minutes and found the injured worker, who was taken to University Medical Center. The extent of the injuries was not released.

According to police, the disturbance began when Gerald Carter returned to the restaurant more than once, saying staff had “disrespected” him. Video reviewed by detectives shows the Carters moving past the counter line near the drive-thru window. Reports say James Carter punched and wrestled with an employee as Gerald Carter stabbed another worker during the struggle. Officers recovered a large folding knife from Gerald’s pocket after detaining the men on a nearby sidewalk. In an interview, Gerald admitted fighting but claimed the knife never left his pocket. James told officers he felt faint after the melee and was evaluated at a hospital before booking, the reports state.

Arrest records list the location as 1318 W. Craig Road, a fast-food corridor west of Camino Al Norte. The incident unfolded during late-afternoon service with customers inside the dining room and drive-thru traffic flowing. Police said several witnesses, including customers and staff, gave statements that aligned with the surveillance footage. A KFC representative expressed concern for the injured team member and said the company would assist authorities. Officers documented the scene, photographed the food line and the drive-thru area, and collected time stamps from store systems to map the sequence.

Court filings show both men face attempted murder with a deadly weapon and related counts. A judge set bail at $100,000 for Gerald Carter and $10,000 for James Carter, with electronic monitoring required if either posts bond, according to early entries. Online jail logs indicated both remained in custody as of midweek. The victim’s name was withheld, and no update on condition was provided beyond the initial hospital transport. Police did not announce any additional arrests tied to the fight.

Fast-food confrontations that jump the counter have become a recurring concern for chains and local police. North Las Vegas investigators noted that back-of-house areas are usually covered by multiple cameras, which can speed up charging decisions. In this case, detectives wrote that footage captured the chokehold sequence and the moment a worker suffered stab wounds near the drive-thru lane. The restaurant reopened after officers cleared the scene. No structural damage was reported inside the store.

The legal process now turns to preliminary hearings and a possible grand-jury review. Prosecutors are expected to submit surveillance clips, medical records from University Medical Center, and witness statements to support the charges. Defense attorneys can challenge probable cause and the description of the weapon’s use. Future court dates will be set on the justice court calendar. If the case advances, a district court arraignment would follow with trial scheduling to be determined.

By Friday, the KFC location was operating on its normal schedule, with a small cluster of customers in line and a manager moving between the front counter and kitchen. A nearby shop owner said police cruisers were gone within hours the day of the incident. “It got quiet pretty fast after the lights left,” the owner said. A diner who visits weekly said staff looked shaken the next day but kept serving during the lunch rush. No additional disturbances were reported at the address this week.

As of Friday evening, both suspects remained jailed and the stabbed employee’s condition had not been updated publicly. The next milestone is an initial court hearing where prosecutors will outline evidence gathered from the store’s cameras and witness accounts.
