A Houston man is facing murder charges after a dangerous game between friends turned deadly. Sean O’Donnell, 37, was arrested on August 17 in connection with the shooting death of his friend, 34-year-old UK native Aaron Prout. The incident occurred in O’Donnell’s Houston home, where the two men were reportedly taking turns shooting at each other while wearing kevlar helmets.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the two friends were inside O’Donnell’s residence, firing a rifle at each other while donning bullet-resistant helmets. During this reckless exchange, Prout was critically injured. The British man was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding Prout’s death while wearing the helmet remain unclear. Although kevlar helmets are designed to offer a certain level of protection, they are not guaranteed to be 100% bulletproof.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez expressed disbelief at the incident, stating it was hard to fathom that two friends would engage in such a dangerous activity. He noted the recklessness of their actions, particularly given that they were in a residential neighborhood.
The authorities have not released specific details about the type of rifle used or the distance between the two men during their perilous target practice. Following his arrest, O’Donnell was charged with murder and is currently being held in the Harris County Jail.
