Reports of suicide circulated online after her death, but police and her management agency had not publicly confirmed a cause.
TOKYO — Japanese adult film performer Hana Kuraki, 25, was reported dead Sept. 12 after an associate said he went to a Tokyo apartment following a call from one of her friends, while the circumstances and official cause of her death remained publicly unconfirmed.
News of Kuraki’s death spread rapidly across Japanese social media before being picked up by international outlets. Several reports described the death as an apparent or suspected suicide, but those accounts traced the claim largely to social media posts rather than a public finding from police. No police announcement or statement from Kuraki’s management agency confirming the manner or cause of death was identified in publicly available material reviewed through Monday.
Sakito, a figure in Tokyo’s host-club industry who said he became involved after being contacted about Kuraki, publicly acknowledged her death and sought to correct parts of the story circulating online. He said he was not the first person to find Kuraki and that a friend of hers had contacted him before he went to the location. He also said he dealt with police at the scene. His account provided one of the first public acknowledgments from someone who said he had direct involvement after Kuraki was found.
The New York Post reported that Kuraki was found dead in an apartment in Tokyo’s Kabukicho entertainment district and described the death as a suspected suicide. Japanese reporting was more cautious, noting that neither police nor Kuraki’s agency had publicly established a cause of death. That distinction is significant because social media posts about the case also contained claims about Kuraki’s private relationships and events before her death that had not been independently verified.
Online allegations attempted to connect Kuraki’s death to a personal relationship and to injuries she suffered earlier in the year. Reliable public evidence establishing those allegations was not available, and authorities had not announced findings tying another person to her death. Some reports identified people alleged to have been connected to the apartment or to Kuraki personally, but the most serious accusations circulating about them remained unverified. Those claims should not be treated as established facts without official records or corroborated evidence.
Kuraki had previously told followers that she was taking a temporary break from public activities. In a June 7 social media post later reproduced by Japanese media, she said she would enter a period of rest while indicating that she still wanted to continue filming. Other reports said she had suffered facial and jaw injuries around that period in what she described publicly as a traffic accident. The precise circumstances surrounding those injuries have not been established by an official investigation made public.
Kuraki was born Aug. 7, 2001, in Kanagawa Prefecture, according to the official website of T-Powers, the talent agency that represented her. The agency continued to list her among its performers Monday. Her social media profile described her as having made her debut with adult video label S1 on May 28, 2024. T-Powers’ profile for Kuraki lists a series of releases through 2026 and shows that she had continued to have scheduled professional work in the months before reports of her death.
Her career also included public appearances and events in Japan and abroad. T-Powers’ official listing shows that Kuraki was scheduled for multiple fan events during 2026 and participated in the Taiwan Adult Expo in Kaohsiung in April. The agency’s page still listed a Sept. 22 release featuring Kuraki when reviewed Monday, an indication that its public-facing material had not yet been fully updated following reports of her death.
The case drew added attention because Kuraki remained active online shortly before the death reports emerged. Archived copies of her social media activity show posts and promotional material continuing into late summer. That recent activity contributed to confusion among followers when reports of her death suddenly began circulating Sept. 12, with Japanese outlets emphasizing the lack of an immediate formal announcement from her agency or police.
As of Sept. 14, authorities had not publicly released a verified cause or manner of death in the sources reviewed, and no official findings established that another person was responsible. Kuraki’s death has been acknowledged by an associate who said he was present after being called to the scene, but further claims about suicide, her private relationships and earlier injuries remain subject to confirmation from authorities or other reliable evidence.
