A DoorDash driver in Texas narrowly escaped death after being stabbed multiple times by a man he attempted to assist. Jackson Oltmanns had just completed his final delivery for the night and decided to grab a meal at a Waffle House in Fort Worth around 2 a.m. on March 29. It was there that he encountered Quindarius Cartwright, who Oltmanns believed to be homeless and possibly under the influence of drugs.
Cartwright approached Oltmanns, requesting money for food. Oltmanns, 28, informed the 24-year-old Cartwright that he didn’t have any cash to spare but offered to buy him a meal from the restaurant. This was a common act of kindness for Oltmanns, who often encountered individuals in need during his late-night shifts.
However, as Oltmanns exited his vehicle, Cartwright launched a violent knife attack, stabbing him multiple times. “He tried to kill me, stabbing me at least 10 times. Luckily, I was able to defend myself for most of it,” Oltmanns shared on a GoFundMe page set up to help cover his medical expenses.
Following the assault, Cartwright stole Oltmanns’ 2024 Toyota Camry and drove to a local strip club. Oltmanns was left with multiple injuries, including a significant cut on his right cheek. “I thought I was dead. There was so much blood, but luckily, I’m still here,” he said.
Fort Worth Police apprehended Cartwright less than an hour after the attack, at 2:51 a.m. He was charged with aggravated robbery and is currently being held at the Lon Evans Corrections Center on a $150,000 bond.
Oltmanns, who works multiple jobs, often encounters homeless individuals or those under the influence of drugs. He shared that he’s frequently asked for money and typically tries to help when he can. However, this experience has made him more cautious. “I learned that night you’ve got to be very careful about who you’re willing to help out because sometimes they will take advantage of that good nature,” he said.
