Zachery Ty Bryan, known for his role in the popular sitcom “Home Improvement,” and his girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, were recently apprehended in Eugene, Oregon. Bryan was arrested for breaching the terms of his domestic violence probation, and as a result, he was denied bail and will remain in custody until Wednesday.
Bryan, 44, was previously sentenced to 36 months of probation in 2023 following a domestic violence conviction. The probation period is set to end in 2026. The actor was initially arrested on charges of assault and robbery after a disagreement with an unidentified woman. It remains uncertain whether the woman involved was Cartwright. Bryan’s probation terms strictly prohibited him from contacting the victim without prior approval.
Cartwright, on the other hand, is facing five charges, including driving under the influence, three counts of reckless endangerment, and an attempt to commit first-degree assault. Her arraignment is scheduled for Monday. Bryan, who was previously married to Carly Matros from 2007 to 2020, has several children with Cartwright.
In 2020, Bryan was accused of assaulting Cartwright and was charged with felony strangulation, menacing, assault, and harassment. According to a police report, Cartwright claimed that Bryan had pulled her hair and hit her over missing phone chargers. She alleged that Bryan’s abusive behavior began a few weeks prior, accusing him of choking her nearly to the point of suffocation. Bryan was only convicted of menacing and assault at the time. He later claimed that the incident was exaggerated and that he was not overly physical.
Bryan has had previous run-ins with the law. In February 2024, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Riverside, California, and again for the same offense and driving without a license in Custer County, Oklahoma, in October 2024. On January 1, 2025, Bryan was taken into custody after allegedly punching a woman multiple times and threatening her life. It remains unclear if the woman involved was Cartwright. Earlier this month, an unidentified former partner of Bryan was granted a five-year restraining order against him after accusing him of physical assault in July.
