Hiking Influencer’s Cause of Death Revealed After Being Found Dead on Trail

The cause of death for popular hiking influencer Hannah Moody has been disclosed over a month after her body was discovered near a trail in Arizona. The 31-year-old, known for her hiking exploits shared with her 50,000 Instagram followers, succumbed to environmental heat exposure, as per the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office’s online records. Her death has been classified as accidental.

Moody’s body was discovered a mere 600 yards from the Gateway Trailhead parking lot in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve on May 22. This was more than a day after she was last spotted hiking in the area, according to the Scottsdale Police Department. An extensive search operation, both on the ground and from the air, was initiated after her worried friends reported her missing on the evening of May 21 when they failed to establish contact with her.

Moody’s mother, Teri, expressed her hope to AZFamily that her daughter did not suffer and was unaware of her impending fate. She acknowledged the preventability of the tragedy, which she described as a “hard pill to swallow.” Reports indicate that the temperature had soared to 102 degrees on the day Moody embarked on the ill-fated hike.

Moody, who also used her platform to share her faith, is remembered as a free-spirited and loyal friend, a fitness enthusiast, and a fierce competitor. Her mother, still grappling with the tragedy, expressed her hope that her daughter’s untimely death might serve as a cautionary tale and potentially save a life. She said, “I’m hoping that it wasn’t all for nothing. That if one life is saved because of Hannah, then that’s one life that’s been saved.”
