High school cheerleader tragically killed leaving house party

Last weekend, a 17-year-old, beloved high school cheerleader, Desiree Rivas, was shot and killed after leaving a house party in Phoenix.

When police officers arrived at the scene near 91st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, they found her with a gunshot wound, and no arrests have been made.

Cesar Chavez High School, where she was a student, expressed their sorrow in a post on Facebook. Her cheer team also shared their grief over social media, while a neighbor who heard the gunshots reported that the sound of bullets seemed to move, and that two figures were seen running from the area.

To pay their respects, dozens of people gathered in the park for a memorial on Monday, led by Desiree’s father, Danny Rivas. In his sorrow, he remembered his daughter as a role model and beautiful person. Currently, there are no suspects in the case.
