FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A high school teacher from Florida has been arrested after allegedly shooting his wife and brother-in-law at a wedding, according to authorities. Cody Wiggins, 29, now faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide and assault.
The incident occurred on Saturday night at a Marriott hotel in Cool Springs, where the wedding was taking place. The City of Franklin stated that police officers responded to a call about an active shooter and found two victims in need of immediate medical attention. The alleged shooter, who has been identified as Wiggins, had fled the scene but was later apprehended in a nearby neighborhood.
Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the shooting. The victims, who were transported to Vanderbilt Hospital, have not had an update on their condition as of Wednesday.
Wiggins, currently held in the Williamson County Jail on a $3.5 million bond, worked as an English teacher at West Florida High School in Pensacola before his arrest. The Escambia County Public Schools’ website confirmed his employment status and stated that he would be immediately suspended in accordance with the law.
Escambia Schools Superintendent Keith Leonard expressed the district’s cooperation with law enforcement, saying, “We will continue to work with law enforcement as the case is brought to a culmination.”
