Florida Man Faces Charges After Gouging Roomates Eyes Out

A violent incident at a mental institution in Pembroke Pines, Florida, resulted in a man being arrested after he allegedly gouged out his roommate’s eyes during a dispute. The altercation took place at the South Florida State Hospital on a recent Friday afternoon. The accused, 34-year-old Reinaldo Bermeosolo, reportedly got into a heated argument with his roommate, which rapidly escalated into a brutal confrontation.

According to police reports, Bermeosolo allegedly punched his roommate, knocked him to the ground, and then horrifically removed both of his eyes. Another patient at the facility discovered the gruesome scene and promptly alerted the hospital staff. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital with severe injuries, which have resulted in permanent blindness.

Both Bermeosolo and the victim were at the facility due to court orders. Following the incident, Bermeosolo was apprehended and taken to the Broward County Jail. He is currently being held without bond, facing an aggravated battery charge.

The altercation reportedly started over a disagreement about a towel on the door. The Pembroke Pines Police Department is still investigating the incident. Bermeosolo’s public defender waived his court appearance, citing his client’s severe mental impairment as the reason.

The victim, now permanently blind, is heavily sedated following the attack. As the case continues to unfold, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this shocking incident.
