A part-time security guard tragically lost his life in a shooting incident at a well-known Nolita bar, which was once a filming location for the HBO series “Girls,” according to law enforcement officials. The 39-year-old man was at Tom & Jerry’s Bar, located at 288 Elizabeth Street, when an unidentified shooter opened fire on a crowd gathered outside the establishment around 3:30 a.m.
The bullets shattered the bar’s glass window, striking the victim twice in the chest and once in the stomach, as per a police spokesperson. The man, who occasionally worked as a security guard at the bar, was immediately rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, his life could not be saved.
The assailant fled the scene, heading towards East Houston Street, and is currently being pursued by the police. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported to the police that there was no apparent interaction between the victim and the shooter prior to the incident. However, it remains unclear whether the victim was specifically targeted.
Tom & Jerry’s Bar has gained a certain level of fame due to its appearance in the HBO show “Girls.” In one memorable scene, a character orders a White Russian at the bar, leading to an unexpected encounter with a stranger in the restroom.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, and the investigation is ongoing. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to help bring the perpetrator to justice.
