Elderly Man Fatally Chokes Younger Sister at Home

A Brooklyn man, aged 68, has been accused of fatally choking his younger sister in the apartment they shared, according to police and law enforcement sources. The victim, Mary Fagan, 64, was discovered unresponsive in the living room of their residence on St. Johns Place near Bedford Avenue in Crown Heights. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on July 26, as reported by the police.

Emergency medical services workers who responded to the scene pronounced Mary dead. Initially, her death did not raise any suspicions. However, subsequent examinations revealed bruising on her neck, suggesting possible strangulation, according to sources.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that the cause of Mary’s death was homicide, resulting from “compression of the neck,” as stated by a spokeswoman. As the investigation progressed, detectives interviewed her brother, Thomas Fagan, who had no previous arrest records.

During the interview, Thomas confessed to the crime, sources revealed. However, the police did not disclose any motive behind the killing. Thomas was taken into custody on the evening of Saturday and was charged with murder.

Thomas pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Sunday, as per online court records. He was ordered to be held without bail. The New York Police Department confirmed that there were no prior reports of domestic violence incidents involving the siblings.
