Elderly Man Attacked in Home Invasion by Suspects Posing as Amazon Workers

In a shocking incident in Savannah, Georgia, two individuals posing as Amazon employees allegedly attacked an elderly homeowner with a sledgehammer during a home invasion. The incident, which occurred on January 11, was captured on surveillance video, showing the two suspects approaching the home of 66-year-old George “Dirk” Hardison.

The suspects, dressed in Amazon work jackets, approached Hardison’s home, one of them carrying a box as if to deliver a package. They forced their way into the house and assaulted Hardison with a sledgehammer for approximately eight minutes, according to a police report.

After the brutal attack, the suspect holding the box was seen fleeing the scene, still carrying the package. Moments later, the second suspect also ran out of the house. The only item reported stolen from Hardison was $80 in cash. Following the departure of the attackers, Hardison was heard calling for help.

Neighbors discovered Hardison in a bloodied state, suffering from multiple head injuries. He required 14 staples in his head as a result of the attack. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson addressed the incident in a statement, assuring the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The Savannah Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects, who were disguised as Amazon workers. The department urged anyone who saw two individuals dressed as Amazon employees in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.

Hardison, a bartender at O’Connell’s Pub in Savannah’s Historic District, is currently recovering from his injuries. A GoFundMe page has been established to aid in his recovery and rehabilitation, raising $14,000 to date.

Mayor Johnson urged residents to exercise caution, advising them not to open their doors to strangers or accept deliveries from unexpected sources. The suspects were described as two young black males in their 20s. Amazon confirmed that the suspects were not affiliated with the company, stating that they were not making a scheduled delivery for the company at the time of the incident.
