In a devastating event, a 19-year-old known for his love of hunting is believed to have fatally shot his parents and younger brother before taking his own life in a tragic murder-suicide. The incident unfolded at their home in North Sewickley Township on a recent Sunday evening. The victims have been identified as Michelle Hunt, 48, Clifford Hunt Sr., 51, and their 16-year-old son, Cody Hunt.
The authorities were alerted to the situation by a distress call made by the younger Hunt sibling, who managed to reach out to 911 before succumbing to his injuries. When the police arrived, they found both parents deceased at the scene. The suspected shooter and his younger brother were later pronounced dead at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible, in a statement to the press, indicated that the incident seems to be a murder-suicide, although a definitive conclusion has yet to be reached. The investigation is still underway, with authorities needing to interview several individuals associated with the case.
North Sewickley Township Police Chief Jeff Becze shared that the entire family were enthusiastic hunters. He remembered their conversations often centered around hunting, and he was aware of the numerous firearms in their home.
The incident has sent ripples of shock through the small, close-knit community. Jennifer Lanham, a local resident who works near the crime scene, voiced her disbelief at the tragedy, stating that such an incident was unprecedented in their small town.
Autumn Ashurst, a friend of the family, echoed Lanham’s sentiments, stating that the stunned neighbors are seeking answers. She underscored the enormity of the tragedy, stating that it was not just one, but four lives lost at once.
The Riverside School District, where the younger Hunt sibling was a student, issued a statement mourning his loss. Cody was a member of the National Honor Society and played the saxophone in the school’s marching band. He had dreams of serving his country and had intended to apply to the United States Air Force Academy.
A candlelit vigil is planned for 8 pm on Thursday to honor the memory of the victims.
