Driver Hits Pedestrian, Continues 40-Mile Journey with Victim in Car

In a shocking incident in Dallas, a motorist is alleged to have hit a pedestrian, who subsequently crashed through the windshield and landed in the front passenger seat. Rather than stopping, the driver is said to have continued his journey with the victim beside him for a distance of nearly 40 miles.

The incident came to light when police in White Settlement, Texas, were alerted to a suspicious vehicle parked at a local Jack in the Box restaurant. The caller reported a gray Kia Forte with significant front-end damage and a shattered windshield. The driver appeared to be unconscious at the wheel.

Upon arrival, the responding officer discovered a deceased individual in the passenger seat. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Nestor Joel Lujan Flores, was removed from the vehicle. According to White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook, Flores seemed disoriented and claimed he believed he had hit an animal. Paramedics pronounced the passenger dead at the scene, and Flores was subsequently arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter.

The vehicle had reportedly been parked in the restaurant lot for several hours before the 911 call was made. Initially, the location of the crash was unknown. However, the following morning, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office discovered a crash site on the westbound service road of Interstate Highway 30 near Cockrell Hill Road. Investigators found human remains that could potentially belong to the victim in the restaurant parking lot.

Investigators now suspect that Flores struck the pedestrian and then drove approximately 38 miles to the restaurant without alerting authorities. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has assumed responsibility for the investigation as the crash occurred within their jurisdiction. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Flores has a history of driving offenses. He was previously convicted in 2021 for driving while intoxicated in Collin County and was arrested on similar charges in 2020 by the Plano Police Department. He is currently being held at the White Settlement Jail.
