College basketball player arrested for murder

Early Sunday morning, an Alabama basketball player was arrested for the shooting death of a woman near the Tuscaloosa campus.

It was reported that Darius Miles, 21, and Michael Lynn Davis, 20, were arrested for allegedly shooting at a car in an area near campus known as “The Strip” around 1:45 a.m.

According to police, one of the passengers, 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris, was killed by a bullet.

When someone in the other car opened fire, one of the suspects was struck by a bullet and injured. The identity of the suspect who was shot was unclear.

It is believed that the two parties had gotten into a minor argument along The Strip prior to the shooting.

Miles, a junior at the University of Alabama, played forward on the school’s basketball team. During the team’s game against Louisiana State University on Saturday, he was reportedly benched due to an ankle injury.

After learning of Miles’ murder arrest, the university kicked him off the team.

“We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles; he has been removed from campus and is no longer a member of the Alabama men’s basketball team,” the university announced.

Additionally, the school offers counseling services to its students.

Harris and Davis are not affiliated with the university.
