Bus falls off cliff, killing at least 18

The authorities in Mexico have reported that a bus has fallen off a cliff in the western part of the country, leaving 18 people dead and over 30 people injured, including a few minors.

The Nayarit prosecutor’s office said that the bus fell approximately 50 feet into a ravine on Saturday night. The accident took place near a highway that connects Tepic and Puerto Vallarta, a common tourist destination.

Photographs released by the Nayarit Security and Civil Protection Ministry show rescuers extracting the victims from the wreckage.

The officials have identified the dead as 11 female and seven male passengers. At least 11 minors were moved to the nearby hospitals.

This incident follows a similar tragedy that happened in February in the Central Mexican state of Puebla, which resulted in 17 passengers getting killed. Fifteen of the 45 passengers were declared dead at the scene and two others died on the way to the hospital.
