A tragic incident unfolded in Turkey when a 15-year-old woodworking apprentice, Muhammed Kendirci, lost his life due to a cruel prank by his co-workers. The incident occurred at a woodworking center in Sanliurfa, where Kendirci was allegedly overpowered by Habip Aksoy and another co-worker. The duo reportedly tied the young boy’s hands, forcibly removed his pants, and inserted an air compressor tube into his rectum, causing severe internal damage.
The high-pressure air hose, typically used in auto repair, sanding, and powering nail guns, has been the cause of similar fatal incidents in the past. Kendirci was immediately rushed to Harran University Research and Application Hospital following the incident. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries five days later.
Following the incident, Aksoy was arrested but was later released on probation. However, he was subsequently detained again. The specific charges against him have not been disclosed yet.
This is not the first time such a horrific incident has occurred. In recent years, two other teenage boys have lost their lives in similar circumstances. In 2023, a 16-year-old factory worker in India, Motilal Sahu, died from internal injuries after a co-worker inserted a compressed air hose into his rectum as a joke. The accused, Dheerajsingh Goud, allegedly used the hose from his cleaning machine, causing severe damage to Sahu’s intestines. Sahu collapsed on the factory floor and later died from his injuries.
In 2017, a similar incident took place in Brazil. Wesner Moreira da Silva, a 17-year-old car wash worker, died after his colleagues inserted a high-pressure air hose into his rectum, causing his intestines to explode. The perpetrators, Thiago Giovanni Demarco Sena and Willian Enrique Larrea, were later convicted of rape and murder. They were sentenced to over 12 years in prison.
These incidents highlight the need for stricter safety measures and regulations in workplaces, especially those involving the use of potentially dangerous tools. It also underscores the importance of fostering a respectful and safe work environment for all employees, regardless of their age or position.
