7-Year-Old Girl Dies After Hit to Stomach, Mother Arrested

Naikishia Williams, a 32-year-old Florida woman, has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder in relation to the death of her 7-year-old daughter, Nia Williams. The grand jury issued the indictment on Thursday, alleging that the mother was responsible for her daughter’s death on April 28 in Riviera Beach. The autopsy report indicated that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

Williams was taken into custody on Friday and is currently detained at the Palm Beach County Jail without the possibility of bail. The indictment follows months of worry from family members and caregivers who had been caring for Nia. Rebecca Finley and Whytni Walker, who were involved in Nia’s care, expressed their concerns to local media after Williams’ initial court appearance.

Finley stated that she and others had been attempting to alert authorities about Williams for some time. She expressed her belief that Williams should have been incarcerated long before now. Finley also alleged that Williams was directly responsible for Nia’s death, which she characterized as a clear instance of abuse.

In the weeks preceding Nia’s death, Finley had reached out to Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) due to concerns about Nia’s health, describing the young girl as “very malnourished.” Despite her efforts, Finley expressed disappointment that no measures were taken to safeguard Nia from her mother. Finley stated that everyone was aware of the danger posed by Williams as a mother.

The DCF has not yet responded to inquiries about the case. Finley and Walker, however, have pledged to continue their pursuit of justice for Nia. Walker mournfully stated that they can never bring back Nia’s smile or speak to her again.

Finley remembered Nia as a “fashionista” who had a fondness for makeup. More information about the case is anticipated to be disclosed on Monday. Williams, who has been assigned a public defender, is due to appear in court again on July 28. Williams’ other children are now under the care of other family members.
