7 injured, 1 critically at zoo after tree falls on visitors

Seven people were injured Wednesday — one critically — after a giant tree branch fell on them at the San Antonio Zoo, according to local reports.

The branch “unexpectedly broke and fell” on the visitors around 12:05 pm local time, according to a Texas zoo official cited by local TV station KSAT.

One of the zoo guests was brought to the hospital under a “Priority 1” classification, indicating the victim had a life-threatening injury, according to the station.

The other six victims, whose conditions are unknown, were originally treated by the zoo’s security before being taken to the hospital.

The ages of the seven victims have not been released.
