61-Year-Old Found Dead in Toolbox Stashed in Woods, Ohio Man Indicted

Nicholas Ray Swisher, a 29-year-old resident of Trotwood, Ohio, is facing multiple charges after being accused of a brutal murder. The charges include murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse. The victim, John L. Mullins, was a 61-year-old man who was allegedly lured to Swisher’s home and beaten to death.

According to the indictment, the murder took place between September 22 and September 29, 2022, within the confines of Swisher’s residence. Court records indicate that Swisher has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

Mullins’ body was found on September 29, 2022, in a wooded area approximately a mile from Swisher’s home. A probable cause affidavit, as reported by the Dayton Daily News, suggests that Swisher enticed Mullins to his home, where he was subjected to a severe assault. Mullins was allegedly bound with rope and duct tape, beaten to death, and his body was then placed in a toolbox and discarded in the nearby woods.

Swisher was officially charged with Mullins’ murder on December 12, 2023, following his arrest for an unrelated robbery. In addition to the murder charges, Swisher is also facing separate charges stemming from the December 12 incident. These charges include vehicular assault, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, and receiving stolen property.

Currently, Swisher is being held on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled for a status hearing on January 10. This case has drawn attention to the alleged horrific actions of Swisher, who is accused of luring and killing John Mullins in Trotwood, Ohio.
