Jeremiah Nicholas Dill, a 15-year-old from Indiana, is facing adult charges for the alleged murder of his father and great-uncle. The victims, 41-year-old Grantham Chandler and 61-year-old Jeffrey Fauber, were found dead from gunshot wounds in a driveway in Quincy, Indiana on August 9. A woman at the residence reported the incident to 911, and shortly after, Dill surrendered himself to the authorities at the Morgan County Jail.
Court records indicate that the 911 caller identified the shooter as a 15-year-old boy who had recently been discharged from inpatient mental health treatment. Earlier in the year, Dill had been admitted to a mental health facility following threats made against his family, including expressing a desire to kill his father. He also allegedly stated that he knew the location of all the firearms in the house.
Dill was discharged from the mental health facility just two days before the shooting. Despite the family’s attempts to secure all firearms in the house, Dill was able to access them. The 911 caller reported that Dill had taken the family’s Ford Escape and several guns after the shooting.
Upon his arrival at the jail, Dill reportedly made several confessions, including “I killed my father” and “I killed my family.” He also told jail staff that he was “fighting demons.” After being handcuffed and placed in custody, Dill continued to speak, telling officers that the weapons used in the killings were in the Ford Escape, which had been reported missing during the 911 call.
Investigators found an AR-15 rifle and a handgun in the vehicle. A woman at the scene of the shooting told police that Dill had been acting unusually calm and helpful that morning, and had expressed a desire to “kill the family.”
Dill is facing two counts of murder as an adult. He is currently in juvenile custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for December 11.
