The professional wrestling community is grappling with the sudden death of Vince Steele, a well-known independent wrestler who was fondly referred to as “The Jurassic Juggernaut.” Steele, 39, suffered a fatal medical emergency during a four-way match at a Brii Combination Wrestling (BCW) event in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, on Sunday. Steele, who hailed from New York City, reportedly experienced a cardiac event during the match.
BCW confirmed Steele’s untimely death in a statement issued on Monday. The organization expressed its appreciation to the Ridgefield Park Police Department for their immediate response and provision of emergency medical aid. Despite the swift action and the best efforts of the first responders, Steele’s life could not be saved.
BCW referred to Steele’s death as an “unimaginable loss” and asked for understanding and respect as they navigate this tragic event. The organization also pledged to share more information in the coming days about how they intend to commemorate Steele’s impressive legacy.
Steele’s wrestling career, which began in 2004, extended beyond BCW. He also collaborated with Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW) in Florida and ACE Pro Wrestling in New Jersey. He quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the independent wrestling circuit.
CCW also expressed their grief over Steele’s passing. In a statement, they said, “We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of ‘The Jurassic Juggernaut’ Vince Steele. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his fans. Rest In Peace, big man. You will forever be missed.”
The entire professional wrestling community is now mourning the loss of “The Jurassic Juggernaut.” Fellow pro wrestler Vincent Michaels described Sunday as the worst day of his career, lauding Steele for his commitment to the sport. He also praised the efforts of everyone present at the event who attempted to save Steele.
