Woman Stabs 15-Year-Old Sister After Argument

Investigators said the confrontation began after the teen woke up and found her older sister looking through her cellphone.

MIAMI — A Florida woman is accused of stabbing her 15-year-old sister after the teenager woke up and confronted her about searching through her cellphone while she slept, according to investigators and court records.

Police said the stabbing happened inside a family home after an argument escalated into violence. Officers responding to the residence found the teenager suffering from stab wounds and rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said the girl survived the attack and was expected to recover.

According to an arrest report cited by investigators, the teen told police she woke up during the night and saw her older sister scrolling through her phone. The teenager confronted her, leading to a verbal dispute that quickly turned physical. Detectives said the suspect grabbed a knife during the argument and stabbed the girl multiple times before other family members intervened.

Police said relatives inside the home called 911 after hearing screams from the bedroom area. Responding officers separated family members and secured the scene while paramedics treated the injured teen. Authorities said blood evidence and witness statements collected at the residence supported the allegations described in the arrest affidavit.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked into jail on charges connected to aggravated battery and child abuse allegations, according to court documents. Investigators said detectives interviewed multiple relatives to establish the sequence of events and determine whether prior disputes between the sisters had occurred before the stabbing.

Neighbors described the household as generally quiet and said they were shocked by the violence. One nearby resident said police cars and flashing emergency lights filled the street shortly before dawn. “You never expect something like that between sisters,” the neighbor said. “It’s scary and heartbreaking for the whole family.”

Authorities have not publicly released details about what the suspect may have been searching for on the cellphone or whether social media messages played a role in the confrontation. Investigators also did not say how many times the teen was stabbed, though they described her injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

Family violence cases involving teenagers often move through both criminal court proceedings and child welfare reviews, though officials in this case had not announced whether any protective services agencies were involved. Prosecutors were expected to review evidence gathered by detectives, including medical records, witness interviews and forensic findings from the home.

The suspect remained in custody Tuesday pending court proceedings. A judge is expected to address bond conditions and future hearings as the investigation continues.
