An Ohio woman, aged 20, is facing legal consequences following an alleged assault on an 11-year-old girl at a local playground. The incident, recorded on a cellphone by the young girl’s parents, purportedly shows the woman, identified as Destany Scott, physically attacking the child. The Canton Police Department received a report alleging that Scott forcefully slammed the child’s head against the metal part of a slide.
Scott is also accused of making a chilling statement to the victim’s mother, Paige Dishong, expressing a desire for her daughter’s death. Dishong, in a conversation with a local CBS affiliate, voiced her indignation over the incident, advocating for more serious charges than a misdemeanor, assault, and disorderly conduct.
Dishong emphasized the significant disparity in size between Scott and her daughter, noting that Scott, who weighs 270 pounds, could have potentially caused fatal harm to her 110-pound daughter. The incident has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the safety of their children.
The Canton Police Department was notified of the incident on Friday, following a report of an assault at a park on the 1600 block of Clark Avenue. The victim, Dishong’s daughter, described the horrifying experience, stating that Scott had approached her from behind, seized her by the hair, and thrown her to the ground.
Upon reaching the scene, police reportedly found Scott involved in a heated argument with Dishong. The reason behind the attack remains uncertain, but authorities suspect it originated from a disagreement between Scott and Dishong’s daughter.
Scott has been officially charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and obstructing official business in connection with the incident. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Tuesday and is set to appear in court for pretrial proceedings next week.
