A shooting incident occurred at a residential day care center in the upscale neighborhood of Granada Hills, Los Angeles, on Tuesday afternoon. The Kids Dream Learning Center, located about 10 miles south of Santa Clarita, was the scene of the incident. A woman, who was shot in the hand, reported the incident to the Los Angeles Police Department.
At the time of the shooting, children were present at the day care center. However, officials confirmed that none of the children were harmed. Another woman was seen being transported to a nearby hospital, but it remains unclear whether she was also a victim of the shooting.
Both women were conscious upon the arrival of the authorities and were transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The front of the two-story daycare was marked with evidence markers, indicating the location of the incident.
The suspect had fled the scene in a grey Tesla before the authorities arrived. However, the individual was apprehended seven miles south of the shooting location shortly after. The identity of the suspect, an elderly white man with a graying beard, has not been disclosed. The motive behind the shooting and the circumstances surrounding it are still under investigation.
This incident is a grim reminder of similar occurrences in the past. In 2020, a gunman opened fire near a day care center in the Bronx, leading to a gunfight. At the time, eight children were inside the day care center. In another incident in 2022, a 3-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet outside a day care center in Brooklyn. The girl, who was hit in the shoulder, had to wear a sling while recovering from her injuries. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of children in day care centers.
