Woman Kills Boyfriend Following Criticism

A Colorado woman, aged 29, is facing a potential sentence of several decades in prison after being found guilty of murdering her boyfriend. The verdict was reached following a three-week trial in Adams County District Court. Ashley White was convicted of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, and robbery in connection with the 2020 killing of Cody DeLisa, according to official reports.

The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office revealed that the relationship between White and DeLisa had become increasingly fraught and unstable in the months leading up to his death. DeLisa frequently criticized White for her inability to secure full-time work, which led to growing resentment on her part. This resentment was documented in White’s diary, where she expressed regret over ever meeting DeLisa. Her mental health was called into question following an incident where she attempted to drown and burn DeLisa’s cat.

The tension between the couple reached a peak on August 13, 2020. On this day, White attended a job interview in Denver, which she traveled to with a neighbor. She returned home by bus, during which she texted DeLisa about the interview. His skeptical response regarding her chances of securing the job upset White. During her bus ride, she met a man who introduced himself as “Scott.”

Their conversation took a dark turn when Scott asked White about her relationship with DeLisa, specifically inquiring if he had raped her. When White confirmed this, Scott suggested they should kill DeLisa. After disembarking from the bus, the pair spent time together, during which they fired Scott’s gun. They then proceeded to White and DeLisa’s home, where Scott introduced himself as White’s brother from Texas. Shortly after this introduction, DeLisa was shot twice in the head by White and Scott, who subsequently stole his wallet and fled the scene.

In the days following the murder, White and Scott remained in the area before Scott left, never to be seen by White again. DeLisa’s body was discovered during a welfare check conducted by the police a day after the shooting. White quickly emerged as a primary suspect and confessed to the crime during an interview with detectives, leading to her arrest.

The identity of “Scott” remained unknown for approximately three years until a woman contacted the district attorney’s office, believing her boyfriend, Michael Stratton, was the other individual involved in DeLisa’s murder. Stratton was already in custody for allegedly murdering another man, Michael Hunt, in Pueblo, Colorado. However, Stratton has been deemed unfit to stand trial for Hunt’s murder and has not been charged in connection with DeLisa’s death.

District Attorney Brian Mason expressed his views on the case, stating, “This was a tragic and senseless murder and Ashley White bears significant culpability for it. Her callous actions led to the victim’s death and now she will pay a significant price.” White is set to appear for her sentencing hearing before Adams County District Judge Jeffrey Ruff on April 4, where she could face up to 48 years in prison for the murder charge.
