White Oak police said the driver could not see the woman as the vehicle rounded a blind corner behind the restaurant.
WHITE OAK, Texas — A woman died after being struck by a vehicle outside a McDonald’s in East Texas, where police said she was crouched in a driveway area and could not be seen by the driver approaching around a blind corner.
White Oak police responded at about 4:36 p.m. Oct. 21 to the McDonald’s parking lot in the 600 block of East Highway 80. According to information released by the department, investigators determined that the woman had walked out of the restaurant before crouching in the driveway and looking through her purse. A vehicle traveling around the building then struck her.
Investigators said the driver was rounding what police described as a blind corner. Because the woman was positioned low to the ground in the driveway, officers determined that she was not visible to the motorist as the vehicle came around the building.
Paramedics took the woman to a local hospital after the collision. She later died from her injuries, according to police. Authorities did not publicly identify the woman in the information reviewed, and her age and hometown were not released.
Police also did not identify the driver or disclose the type of vehicle involved. The department’s public account did not provide additional details about the woman’s injuries or name the hospital where she was treated.
The White Oak Police Department investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision and determined that it was an accident. Police said no criminal charges would be filed. Authorities did not announce an arrest or indicate that investigators believed the woman had been struck intentionally.
The department said the woman’s location in the driveway and the limited sightline around the building were central to its findings. Publicly available reporting did not specify whether investigators relied on surveillance video, witness statements or other evidence in reaching their conclusion.
Police expressed condolences to the woman’s family after announcing the findings. “Any incident involving the loss of life is a tragedy,” a department spokesperson said in a written statement. “Our thoughts are with the family of the victim.”
As of Oct. 29, authorities had not publicly released the woman’s identity or announced additional legal action related to the collision. Police said the case had been classified as an accident and that criminal charges would not be filed.
