A Texas resident, Amy Lejeune, has been indicted on murder charges following an incident in which she allegedly shot a man she claimed had tried to drug and kidnap her. The incident took place near a winery earlier this year, according to law enforcement officials.
Lejeune, a 45-year-old from Montgomery, reportedly informed the manager of the winery about the incident, who then communicated the information to a 911 operator. Lejeune claimed that she had recently met the victim, 49-year-old Lance Reid, a Houston native. The pair were planning a weekend trip together when Reid allegedly assaulted her in a car in Fredericksburg.
The Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office released a statement indicating that emergency services responded to a 911 call on March 15, 2024, at approximately 12:42 p.m. The caller, later identified as Lejeune, claimed she had been kidnapped and drugged, and that she had shot someone. Her location was initially unknown but was later determined to be near a winery on East U.S. Highway 290. Lejeune was able to provide a description of the vehicle she was associated with and the weapon used.
Upon arrival, deputies found Reid’s lifeless body in the front seat of the car, with Lejeune standing outside nearby. After the shooting, Lejeune reportedly retreated to the winery and asked the manager to call the police. The ownership of the weapon used in the incident remains unclear.
Gillespie County Sheriff Buddy Mills stated in March that the details of the incident were primarily based on Lejeune’s account. However, subsequent investigations led authorities to believe that it was Lejeune who allegedly harbored deadly intentions.
Lejeune was charged with murder on October 8 and was released on October 15 after posting a $100,000 bond, according to jail records. She is scheduled to appear in court on January 9.
