A Tennessee woman, aged 39, has been apprehended and faces multiple felony charges, including child neglect, custodial interference, and vehicle theft. Sarah Myers is accused of abducting her two biological children, after allegedly assaulting her mother, the legal custodian of the children, to the point of unconsciousness.
Myers was arrested on Thursday, with the charges relating to her children, Rico Delk, aged 1, and Elijah Delk, aged 3 months, both of whom were found unharmed. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Metro Nashville Police Department had previously issued an Endangered Child Alert for the two children, stating they were believed to be with their non-custodial mother.
The report indicates that Myers visited her mother, Holly Featherman, at her home on Wednesday. Featherman is the legal guardian of both Rico and Elijah. Myers is alleged to have attacked her mother until she lost consciousness, before fleeing the scene with her children.
Later that evening, around 11:30 p.m., police in Hermitage, Tennessee, received a call from a man requesting a welfare check at a local townhouse. The man, who claimed to know Myers, reported that she was suicidal and had spoken about taking her own life. He also mentioned that she had access to a large quantity of prescription medication.
Upon arrival at the townhouse, police and emergency medical personnel discovered the older child, Rico, alone in a car parked outside. As the search for Myers and Elijah continued, Rico was transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital for a check-up.
Myers and Elijah were later found inside a residence on Old Fountain Place. According to police, Myers had entered the house through a back door and had not left to check on Rico, who was left alone in the car. Myers was promptly arrested and is currently being held on a $20,000 bond. She is due to appear in court before Judge Jim Todd on December 12.
