A 23-year-old woman from Texas, Tatyana Evans, has been apprehended by authorities on charges of murder. She is accused of fatally shooting her 28-year-old boyfriend, Geovanni Montague, in a fit of jealousy after discovering messages from another woman on his cellphone.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies and homicide detectives responded to a call about a murder victim in the early hours of February 9. The incident took place in the 10700 block of Barely Lane, near Jones Road. Upon arrival, first responders found Montague unresponsive in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that Evans and Montague were in a tumultuous romantic relationship. Investigators believe that jealousy may have been the motive behind the shooting.
Montague and his mother resided in the Oak Grove apartment complex, not far from where his body was discovered, according to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU. Court documents reveal that Montague’s mother described the relationship between her son and Evans as violent. She alleged that Evans had previously inflicted serious harm on her son. Montague had filed a police report in December 2024, citing threats made by Evans, but court records do not show any charges filed against Evans related to this incident.
Investigators obtained surveillance footage from the vicinity of the crime scene. The footage allegedly showed a vehicle, matching the description of Evans’ car, leaving the area around the time Montague was shot. The vehicle was reportedly seen speeding away from the scene with its headlights off.
According to investigators, Evans and Montague had spent several hours together at Montague’s apartment on February 8. Evans later returned to her mother’s apartment. Montague called Evans to inform her that he had accidentally left his cellphone in her car. Upon finding the phone, Evans discovered text messages from another woman. Investigators believe this led to Evans returning to Montague’s apartment with a .45 pistol to confront him about the messages.
Evans reportedly told police that during the confrontation, Montague grabbed her jacket, prompting her to shoot him multiple times. She then allegedly left him in the street and returned home. Evans, a decorated U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
