Woman accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend 19 times with scissors in his sleep, claiming it was a ‘dream’ now pleads insanity

On Monday, Morgan Taylor Lund, a 21-year-old woman from Wisconsin pleaded not guilty due to insanity in an attempted murder of her ex-boyfriend. According to the affidavit, Lund stated that she was having a possible dream and attacked a dark, frightening figure she believed to be attacking her ex. Judge Bryan D. Keberlein of the Winnebago County Circuit Court ordered a mental examination for Lund.

When police arrived to the 500 block of Jefferson Street on February 18th, they found a chaotic scene. Lund was wearing an oversized UCLA sweatshirt with blood all over her legs, feet, forearms, and hands. Her ex-boyfriend was shirtless and bleeding heavily. The medical staff at the hospital reported that he had 19 stab wounds on his back, right shoulder, chest, face, and both hands. Police found scissors, likely bloodied, near the couch.

Lund and her ex-boyfriend, who is the father of her child, had been living together and had a tumultuous relationship. Lund claimed that for the past 6 months to a year, she had been seeing a dark figure, which she believed to be the figure attacking her ex. She said she had a blurred memory of a dream or her own imagination and was only aware of the incident when her ex-boyfriend screamed at her and fought back.

According to her ex-boyfriend, Lund had been abusive and the two had been arguing daily. While he said he did not know why she had stabbed him, he recounted waking up to find her stabbing him repeatedly with scissors. Lund’s next hearing is scheduled for April 13.
