Two Firefighters Killed in Tragic Accident While on Duty

A solemn convoy of emergency personnel journeyed to Flagstaff on Monday, paying tribute to two Timber Mesa firefighters who tragically perished in a head-on collision while on duty the previous night. The loss of these brave individuals has deeply affected their colleagues and the community they served.

Randy Chevalier, the Chief of the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District, expressed profound grief over the loss of his fellow firefighters. He spoke of his deep affection for each member of his team and his commitment to the community they serve. The news of the fatal accident, which occurred near his residence late Sunday evening, was a devastating blow. He described the scene of the head-on collision as one of extreme damage, calling it one of the most horrific accidents he has witnessed in his career.

Upon reaching the accident site, Chevalier identified the victims as 31-year-old Brenna Kulikowski and 21-year-old Damon Thompson. Kulikowski, known for her exceptional skills and compassion, had devoted three years to the department. Thompson, who was close to completing his first year, had always dreamed of becoming a firefighter.

Thompson’s parents remembered their son as an extraordinary firefighter, emphasizing his lifelong desire to serve his community. The loss of these two dedicated individuals has left the Timber Mesa community in shock and mourning. A fellow firefighter expressed the collective grief, acknowledging the uncertainty and pain as they grapple with this tragedy.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently investigating the cause of the crash, which also resulted in the death of the other driver involved. The identity of this individual has not yet been disclosed.

In response to this tragic event, a fundraising campaign has been initiated to support the families of Kulikowski and Thompson. The community is rallying together to provide comfort and assistance during this difficult time.
