Two Charged in Case of Missing Teen

Nearly two years after the mysterious disappearance of 17-year-old Kaitlin Whoolery, two men have been charged in relation to her death. The charges come as authorities continue to unravel the tragic events surrounding Whoolery’s death, who vanished in 2023 after leaving a drug treatment center. Her remains were found five months later in an abandoned property in North Union Township, sparking a complex investigation.

The Fayette County District Attorney’s office has confirmed the arrest and charging of 37-year-old Derek Bradley. Vincent Cossell, 44, has also been implicated in the case and is currently cooperating with investigators. The case is largely dependent on eyewitness testimonies due to the absence of substantial forensic evidence.

According to the criminal complaint, Whoolery was last seen alive in the company of Bradley, Cossell, and another individual. Kash Patel, a witness, told police that he and Bradley had briefly left the room, only to return and find Whoolery unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive her with Narcan, a medication used to block the effects of opioids, Whoolery could not be resuscitated.

Patel also alleged that he had urged Bradley and Cossell to call emergency services, but they declined. The refusal was reportedly due to the hotel room being registered under Cossell’s name and concerns about Bradley’s inappropriate relationship with the underage Whoolery.

Investigators have also raised suspicions about certain family members of Whoolery, suggesting that they may have withheld crucial information that could have aided the investigation. The possibility of charges against these individuals remains as the investigation continues.

Despite the numerous challenges faced during the investigation, law enforcement officers have remained committed to the case. Their tireless efforts have been instrumental in advancing the case and bringing those responsible closer to justice.

As the charges have been filed, the focus now shifts to ensuring accountability and closure for Whoolery’s family, who have endured a prolonged period of uncertainty and grief.
