A 14-year-old girl from Vermont tragically took her own life after enduring relentless bullying at her school due to her mother’s health condition, which included a brain surgery that resulted in a closed eye, as per various reports. Isabelle Vezina-Dykeman was a first-year student at the Mill School in Winooski, a specialized high school catering to students with complex needs.
Isabelle’s mother, Heather Miller, described her daughter as a lively, outgoing teenager who had a passion for dancing and ice skating. She was looking forward to her freshman year at school. However, the bullying she faced at school, which continued even after school hours through cruel text messages, made her life unbearable. The bullies targeted Isabelle and her mother’s appearance post-surgery.
Miller had recently undergone brain surgery that resulted in her right eye being closed. When Isabelle returned home visibly distressed on September 15, Miller decided to give her some space to relax. Little did she know that within 35 minutes, their lives would be irrevocably changed. Isabelle tragically ended her life that night.
The Mill School, where Isabelle was a student, is currently investigating the allegations of bullying. In a statement, the school expressed its devastation over the loss of one of their students and assured that they are working with the relevant agencies and providing counseling support.
In a poignant turn of events, Isabelle’s organs were donated, saving the lives of seven people. One of the recipients was a child who received Isabelle’s eyes and can now see. Neither Miller nor the school were immediately available for comment.
