Undrellius Fleck’s 30-year robbery sentence will run alongside a 23-year term imposed in a separate murder case.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An 18-year-old already serving time for a fatal convenience-store shooting has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for an armed Waffle House robbery committed about two weeks before the killing.
Undrellius K. Fleck received the robbery sentence Wednesday in Clay County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to first-degree robbery. Judge Shane T. Alexander ordered the sentence to run concurrently with a 23-year term Fleck received in May for second-degree murder and robbery in the death of 23-year-old Kenneth Hutt. Concurrent sentences are served at the same time, meaning the longer 30-year term controls how long Fleck is scheduled to remain imprisoned.
The Waffle House robbery occurred shortly after 10:20 p.m. Aug. 21, 2025, at the restaurant at 4404 N. Antioch Road in Kansas City. Court records said a man arrived with his former girlfriend, who soon left the restaurant. When the man followed her outside, Fleck ran toward him while carrying a handgun, investigators said.
The man fled back into the restaurant, jumped over the counter and took cover behind a waitress. Fleck followed him inside and pointed a black handgun equipped with a light at the pair, according to prosecutors. Court records said Fleck demanded the man’s cellphone, ordered him to hurry and threatened to shoot him.
The man surrendered the phone, and Fleck left the restaurant. No one was physically injured during the robbery, but the waitress later told investigators that she believed she was going to die. She identified Fleck in a photographic lineup, prosecutors said. Surveillance footage also recorded the confrontation.
Investigators said the victim’s former girlfriend helped connect Fleck to the crime. Police had stopped her gray Nissan Altima one day before the robbery, and she was speaking on the phone during the traffic stop. She told officers the person on the call was her boyfriend, Fleck, according to court records.
Sixteen days after the restaurant robbery, Fleck became involved in the fatal shooting at the Snap & Go convenience store in the 8200 block of Bannister Road. Kansas City police were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and found Hutt suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
Surveillance video showed Fleck arriving at the business in a gray Nissan and carrying what appeared to be a Glock-style handgun modified with a device that allowed automatic fire, prosecutors said. A second defendant, Jordan A. Vasquez, allegedly gave Fleck another firearm as the two approached Hutt, who appeared to be carrying a pistol.
Prosecutors said Fleck and Vasquez attempted to take Hutt’s gun. When Hutt tried to retain control of the weapon, Fleck fired at him, according to court records. After Hutt fell, Fleck took his gun, and both defendants fled. Fleck was arrested three days later following a police pursuit.
Fleck, who was a juvenile when both crimes occurred, was certified to stand trial as an adult. He pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder and robbery in the convenience-store case before receiving the 23-year sentence May 28. The court records reviewed by local news organizations said an armed criminal action charge connected to the Waffle House robbery was dismissed under his plea agreement.
Vasquez, who has also been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree robbery in Hutt’s death, is scheduled for trial in February 2027. Those allegations remain pending, and Vasquez is presumed innocent unless convicted. Fleck also faces unresolved identity theft, burglary and theft allegations in Johnson County, Kansas.
